Prof. Axinia Džurova

Axinia Džurova, Professor, Doctor of Art History (Medieval and Contemporary Art). Founder of the Department of Cultural Studies (in 1981 together with Prof. Nikolay Genchev) and of the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies “Acad. Ivan Duychev” at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and its director from 1986 to 2010.

Foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (2006), Founding Academician of the Slavic Class at the Accademia Ambrosiana in Milan (2008), Doctor Honoris Causa of Soka University in Tokyo (2007). Author of a number of studies in the field of Slavic and Greek manuscript heritage and contemporary art. Guest professor at a number of universities in Europe, the USA, Japan and Russia. Chairman of the Elena and Ivan Duychevi Foundation.
