KONSTANTIN KOSTOV TRIО

Konstantin Kostov’s adventures in music began at the School of Music in Pleven, Bulgaria, when he was 14 years old. He then graduated from the class of Prof. Julia Tzenova at the Pancho Vladigerov National Musical Academy in Sofia. His journey continued at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HMT) in Munich. There he joined the class of the extraordinary pedagogue Leonid Chizhik and delved into exploring the world of improvisation and freedom: “It was very difficult to get into his class, and I was hugely lucky that he took me onboard. There is a special relationship between us. I perceive him like a father. Until the present day, we continue to meet, talk, and play together,” shares Konstantin.

After graduation, Konstantin won a competition in 2008 and began working as a jazz piano associate professor at HMT. Alongside his teaching, he composed music and performed at concerts.

The Konstantin Kostov Trio is a classical jazz trio with a Bulgarian piano virtuoso and a Polish rhythm section – bassist Pawel Panta and drummer Cezary Konrad. The musicians perform their own works, jazz standards, and transcriptions of compositions by Albinoni and Frederic Chopin. The idea underlying their sound is intriguing for both performers and listeners: the double bass is treated as equal to the piano as a melodic instrument, and percussion performs both rhythmic and solo functions. The artists develop captivating musical images generously filled with expressiveness, lyricism, and thrilling improvisation. Their live performances touch both sophisticated music enthusiasts and people looking for new traits in jazz.
