Stoimen Stoilov

Stoimen Stoilov was born in 1944 in Varna. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in 1972 in the class of Professor Alexander Poplilov. He is the founder of the International Graphic Biennial in Varna. In 1991, he was awarded the Herder Prize for lifetime achievement by the University of Vienna. That same year, his studio in Varna burned down, resulting in the loss of many works, prompting him to move to Vienna. In 2009, he was awarded the title of “Professor” by the Austrian Ministry of Culture for his exceptional contributions to the development of its culture and art. He is a recipient of the Order of “Stara Planina” – 1st degree. His works are held by the French Library and the Fund for Contemporary Art in Paris, the Albertina Museum of Graphic Art in Vienna, the Library of Congress in Washington, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, and private collections. His name appears in Benezit – the oldest French encyclopedia of fine arts. He currently lives between Vienna and Varna.
