Stoyan Tsanev

Stoyan Tsanev was born in 1946 in Burgas. In 1973, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The modern development of Polish plastic arts at that time determined the direction in which the talented artist would evolve in the following years. He worked in the fields of graphics and painting. As early as 1979, Tsanev received the highest award for achievements in graphics, named after Veselin Staikov. This award was once again bestowed upon him by the Union of Bulgarian Artists in 1988. The artist received major accolades at international exhibitions in the USA, Spain, Norway, Japan, and other countries. He won the Grand Prize at the Varna International Biennial of Graphics in 1987. In 2007, he was awarded the most prestigious Bulgarian prize for painting, named after Zahari Zograf. Stoyan Tsanev’s works are in all major Bulgarian collections and museums, as well as in the National Library of France, the Museums of Fine Arts of Finland, India, Norway, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, and others. In the last years of his life, he lived and worked in the village of Luka, Burgas region. He passed away in 2019.
