Svetlin Rusev

Svetlin Rusev was born in 1933 in the village of Varbitsa, Pleven region. He graduated in painting in 1959 from the National Academy of Arts under Professor Dechko Uzunov. Between 1973 and 1985, he was the chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. This period was marked by an exceptional opening of Bulgarian visual arts to European trends. Between 1982-84, he was the first deputy chairman of the Committee for Culture. Since 2003, he has been a full member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. A person with exceptional public reflection and activity, he had numerous solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad. He was a member of many artistic academies worldwide, a member of the Autumn Salon in Paris, and the “Nika-kai” Foundation in Tokyo. Svetlin Rusev was among the greatest Bulgarian collectors, and his gallery-studio in Sofia is open to art enthusiasts. The author passed away in 2018.
