Violeta Tsvetkova

Violeta Tsvetkova is a longtime journalist specializing in culture. She holds a degree in Slavic Philology from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” with a specialization in Polish language and literature at the University of Warsaw. She has worked as an editor, senior editor, and head of the Culture Department at newspapers Kontinent, Novinar, Trud, and the magazine Paraleli, as well as a public relations expert at the National Library “Sts. Cyril and Methodius.”
She was the screenwriter of the documentary “Everything from Zero” (2014, BNT), about Bulgarian culture during the transition period; editor of the deluxe edition “Treasury: 140 Years of the National Library Sts. Cyril and Methodius,” and wrote the foreword to the album “Word with Brush and Chisel: Artworks Donated to the National Library.”
Her book “Private Encounters with the Unforgettable: 45 Meetings” (2024, Ciela) was recently published. She co-authored Vladimir Nikolov’s autobiography “High” (2024, Ciela) and edited “Dr. Jazz: Dr. Emil Iliev, or the Art of Healing with Music” (2022, Uniscorp), “André Tokev: I Keep Going” (2024, Ciela), among others.
Tsvetkova is the recipient of several journalism awards in the fields of cinema and cultural heritage preservation. She currently works as a freelance journalist, contributing to the Culture magazine and the Culture Portal.

The book “Private Encounters with the Unforgettable: 45 Meetings” by Violeta Tsvetkova (2024, Ciela) is the result of her thirty-year career in journalism. This substantial volume brings together profiles and interviews with prominent Bulgarian cultural figures whom the author has met since 1993 during her time at Kontinent, Novinar, Trud, and Paraleli.
Among the featured individuals are directors Rangel Vulchanov, Zahari Zhandov, Ivan Andonov, and Krikor Azaryan; actresses Katya Paskaleva, Tanya Masalitinova, Stoyanka Mutafova, Mariana Dimitrova, and Zlatina Todeva; actors Naum Shopov, Stefan Danailov, Todor Kolev, Georgi Kaloyanchev, Nikola Anastasov, Filip Trifonov, Ivan Kondov, Chocho Popoyordanov, Veli Chaushev, and Georgi Rusev; writer Georgi Danailov; poets Valeri Petrov and Lyubomir Levchev; scholars Zhanna Nikolova-Galabova, Salza Petkanova, Prof. Nikola Georgiev; historian Bozhidar Dimitrov; musicians Dimi from the band Sleng and Dimo from P.I.F.; artist Magda Abazova; sculptor Alexander Dyakov, and others.
The texts are enriched with previously unpublished parts of the interviews and personal memories from the author’s meetings and conversations. According to critic Sonya Alexandrova, “Private Encounters with the Unforgettable” is a portrait of our country painted by 45 intellectuals — “builders of modern Bulgaria.”
The book was created after winning a competition and with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
