Vladimir Zarev

Vladimir Zarev was born on 5 October 1947 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He majored in Bulgarian Studies at Sofia University. Presently, he is the editor-in-chief of Suvremennik, an elite literary journal. Vladimir Zarev has written 22 books, including twelve novels such as the national epic saga Genesis, Exodus, and The Law, as well as Downfall, Worlds, Year 1850, Priest Bogomil and the Perfection of Fear, The Hound and The Hound against the Hound, The Eagle Bridge, and others. His works have been translated into German, Russian, English, Czech, Turkish, Polish, Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Serbian, and Croatian.
Vladimir Zarev has been honored with several national awards, including those named after Mihalaki Georgiev, Ivan Vazov, Elin Pelin, and Stoyan Mihaylovski. In 2018, he received the prestigious national award “Paisii Hilendarski” for his significant contribution to national identity. In 2020, he was awarded the highest governmental honor, Stara Planina I degree. In 2022, he was elected as an academician at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
